Departure Lounge was part of the 2006 Perfect Pitch Showcase. From there it changed its name temporarily to "Unzipped" for a 2007 production at the Arts Theatre. The show was then developed further under its original title and produced as part of the 2008 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. This production was nominated for all 5 MTM:UK Awards for Musical Theatre and was awarded the prize for BEST MUSIC.

In July 2009 Departure Lounge was selected from over 2,500 plays and musicals submitted to the Summer Play Festival in New York as the only musical in an eight show season.
